My wife and I are vegan, and this was our first trip to Istanbul. We had planned our vegan-friendly spots in advance, and Valens Cafe Restaurant ended up being our choice for dinner on our first evening. The interior is atmospheric and authentic, with bookshelves, a brightly painted staircase, and walls decorated in vivid colors. It felt very cozy. There were almost no other guests that evening. We were greeted by a very friendly waiter who seemed more like the owner, and a dog—apparently his—was sleeping on one of the chairs. The café is not fully vegan, but it offers four full pages of vegan options on the menu. We really enjoyed the pancakes with potato and spinach, as well as the tasty falafel dishes. At the end, we were offered complimentary tea. When the bill came, the waiter had forgotten to add one of the dishes, so we pointed it out; he thanked us for being honest. The prices were quite reasonable: dinner for two came to around 2,200 TRY. If you are vegan and visiting Istanbul, this is one of the non-vegan cafés in the Old City with the widest selection of vegan options in the area.
